Fleming Technologies, located in Blacksburg, VA, is a computer engineering firm specializing in aerospace and defense applications. This small business was founded in 2011 and works with several larger aerospace companies. The owner reached out to Framework Creative to redesign their website and logo.
The owner liked the existing logo but realized its constraints for printing across a variety of media due to its depth and colors. Additionally, the typography was giving it an outdated look. The former website was also outdated and did not display well across different devices. It also had blocks of text that needed to be broken up to add visual interest. The owner’s goal was a responsive, professional redesign that better and more visually displayed their services and work to current and prospective clients.
I first set to work redesigning the primary and alternate logos. Since the owner liked a lot of the elements of the old logo, I worked from that one and simplified. I kept the plane icon and the flight paths, removing the 3D color gradient to flatten the logo so that it could be more easily used on other media. I chose a modern san serif font to pair with the new icon. The brand color palette features blues and teals with a pop of red for accents.
Next I got to work on the design of this mobile responsive, WordPress website. I broke up large sections of text, editing the copy as needed, and adding in photos and/or icons to make the content more readable, interactive, and visually appealing. I also broke up the Projects page into a grid format, displaying a featured image and an excerpt of each project that links to the individual page for that project.
The end result is a professional, visually appealing website that the owner can proudly share with clients and a simplified, up-to-date logo that is much better suited to printing on a variety of media than the previous one.
